How Does a Person Become Involved in OCEE?

There are many ways in which to become involved with the Ohio Council Economic Education:

Donations: "If you believe in something, you support it. If you support something, the time comes when good wishes and cordial words are not enough and your hand reaches for your pocketbook. Then the fun begins. For giving is fun. If you refuse to give, your support is wavering; and if your support is wavering, it can't be that you believe in that something in any strong way. Maybe our account books, after all, offer the honest list of those things in which we really believe." - Kenneth Irving Brown

The OCEE is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, largely supported through public and private grants and the contributions of Ohio Citizens. We welcome any and all donations. Making a contribution is easy:

The United Way Contributor Choice Program

  • The Ohio Council on Economic Education is not a United Way member agency. However, donors can make a contribution to us by writing our name “Ohio Council on Economic Education” and phone number “614-292-1178” in the applicable spot on the pledge cards, “________ Other”. Please note that OCEE will not be issued a four-digit book number. Donors can specify our Donor Choice agency by writing in our agency name, address and phone number in the applicable spot on their pledge card and indicating agency code "99".
  • When contributing via the United Way website or as part of your employer’s United Way campaign, the following additional information may be required:

Our address: OCEE – CETE Bldg – 1900 Kenny Rd – Columbus, OH 43210
    Our phone: 614-292-1178
    Our e-mail: oceeinfo@ocee.org
    Our tax-exempt identification number: 31-606-0311

  • After making your contribution through United Way , it is important that you contact us directly and tell us what amount you have contributed. This is necessary to properly attribute your contribution, as United Way does not provide us with individual donation amounts.
  • Please note that the Contributor Choice Program is not available in the State of Ohio Combined Charitable Campaign or in the Combined Federal Campaign. The employees in these campaigns can only donate to organizations in their respective contributor guidebooks.

In-Kind

The Ohio Council on Economic Education is pleased to accept in-kind donations of office supplies and equipment, meeting and event space or travel support (frequent flyer miles), and sponsorship of programs and events (awards, prizes, meals). For more information, please call 614-292-1178 and ask to speak with Ms. Abbejean Kehler.

Matching Contributions

The Ohio Council on Economic Education knows that many employers will match their employee’s contributions to non-profit organizations. If this is an option you wish to pursue, please check with your employer and call 614-292-1178 and ask to speak with Ms. Abbejean Kehler. We are happy to provide you and your employer whatever additional information may be necessary to complete this process.

Board of Trustees: We are always seeking representatives of the community to serve as active members of our Board. If you wish to volunteer your time and talents in this manner, please contact Abbejean Kehler at 614-292-1178.

Technical Assistance: On those occasions when one of our computers is having difficulties, we must engage in a time-consuming search for qualified—and generally costly—help. If you work with computers, and would like to volunteer your services as an on-call expert, please contact Abbejean Kehler at 614-292-1178.

Sponsorships: We award prizes to students competing in our High School Economics Challenge, which takes place in February of each year. If you or your organization would care to sponsor either cash prizes or prize items (such as Economics Challenge t-shirts, gift cards, etc), we would be pleased to hear from you. You may also wish to sponsor the registration fee for a team from your local school. For more information on the Economics Challenge, please visit our Events page. To sponsor prizes or a team, please contact Abbejean Kehler at 614-292-1178.

Program Assistance: Sometimes we need help staffing events, in particular the Economics Challenge. If you would be willing to volunteer your time to help us by scoring tests (no knowledge of economics is required!) proctoring tests, or providing general support, please contact Abbejean Kehler at 614-292-1178.

ETC Kits: Teachers need more than just paper and pencils to fully engage their students in financial literacy. We have developed the Economics Toolkit for the Classroom to assist them in their endeavors. Perhaps you or your organization would like to sponsor the donation of one or both of the ETC Kits (Primary for grdaes K-2 and Intermediate for Grades 3-5) to a local school? For more information or to purchase a Kit, please contact Abbejean Kehler at 614-292-1178.
